John Herbert – Artist (installation/mixed media) Writer & Musician

 

John’s work explores issues around our ‘interventionist’ relationship with nature and the natural environment. He has exhibited internationally and throughout the UK, including shows at The Whitechapel Gallery, The Crafts Council Gallery, Chelsea School of Art, Ikon Gallery, Whitworth Gallery (Northern Young Contemporaries), Herbert Museum and Art Gallery, Stoke City Museum and Art Gallery (Midland View 1 prizewinner) and Ulster University Belfast.

 

John has lectured in Fine Art Studio Practice at Chelsea School of Art, Kingston University, University of Wolverhampton, Birmingham City University, and Ulster University as Artist in Residence. He has received Arts Council funding and commissions for his installation works and poetry, and featured on Channel 4 ‘Signals’, contributing work in Common Ground’s ‘Out of the Wood’ exhibition, which won The Prudential Award for Visual Art. Representing Coventry, John was invited by The European Arts Festival to produce work for The European Peace Pavement, an international collaborative project completed by 16 artists from 16 European cities, all sharing the scars and devastation of war.
